Casey, the knock-kneed cowboy, here on the left. Billie Willmon Jenkin (on the right, below) wrote and illustrated the book (even though it's MY story). This is where ya learn about her. I'm rattin' her out just like she did me!

Home: Huntsville, Texas and Roatan, Honduras

Specialties: Billie Willmon Jenkin is a

  • Retired teacher/ educator. She's taught just about every grade from kindergarten through high school Her last students prior to retirement were adult male inmates in a maximum security prison.
  • Curious humanoid. "Why do people make bad decisions?" she wondered. This question - and students’ willingness to share their own experiences - showed that their lack of self-acceptance and the belief that "I'm a victim" - lead to a BIG need to gain approval from others.
  • Presenter/ public speaker/ Self Acceptance Guru. She speaks to small groups or large. See Contact info bottom of this page (if the Cybermonsters didn't eat it).
What else do ya wanna know about her?

Q: So she taught school kids and prisoners. Big deal. How does that make this book a "gotta-have"?
A: Well, she
doesn't just think about stuff. She's a "Make-It-Happen-er." The last two years teaching prisoners, Ms. Jenkin developed and tested courses that taught people how to change the way they make decisions. "Change your mind, and you change your life," she says.

She wrote The Knock-Kneed Cowboy so kids and other people could learn how to look at themselves - and at "problems" - differently without "learnin' the hard way."

Q: So, why should I listen to HER?
A: I heard there's no such thing as a dumb question, but... why should ya listen to anybody?

If nobody is ever going to say anything negative to you and if you're not gonna mess-up on anything ever again, you can go back to playin' your video games. If you're gonna be connecting with real people, though,  this ole gal can teach you how to save yourself a LOT of misery. She knows what she's talkin' about when it comes to
teaching self esteem, to children's self acceptance, and to teaching self worth.

Q: What else has she written?
A: Billie Willmon Jenkin co-wrote two best-sellers: Wake-Up Women: BE Happy, Healthy, and Wealthy and Wake Up Moments. In each book, she shows folks how to take a so-called problem and turn it into a lesson and a benefit.

Q: How is "turning a problem into a benefit" going to help me? I AM my problem.
A. I'm not buyin' into that! It's not you - it's your attitudes - that are messin' ya up! Sounds like you base your attitudes and beliefs about yourself on what others have told ya. If you have different information, though, you can change those attitudes that keep messin' ya up.

Q: I'm confused. Sounds like Ms. Jenkin is saying "Accept yourself." But her company is called "Empowering For Change." So, am I supposed to be happy with life by accepting myself, or by changing?
A. Yes!!! (I know: "Huh???") The way Ms. Jenkin explains it is somethin' like this: "If we accept that the 'REAL us' is 'just right' ...just as we are, then we can stop wasting our energy fighting against ourselves. If we accept ourselves NOW, we are free to choose to make the changes we want to make because we feel those changes are important .... Not so we can become acceptable to others.

Q: I'm a teacher, too.  Is there any way I can get a set for my classroom?
A. Matter of fact, at this time... Yes!!! See details on the "Educators" page or the "Adopt-a-Classroom" page. You can also use the contact information below. Somebody will get back with you.

Q: "Self Acceptance Guru," huh?
A. You betcha! She speaks to classes (kindergarten, college, and every step in between), to educators; to organizations of all sizes. She also occasionally has openings for group and individual coaching sessions. If ya wanna know more, contact her below. If  Billie or her husband Alan can't answer right away, their voicemail will. Please limit calls to times unlikely to awaken their "inner bear"!!! (Grrrrrr!!!)

Even an ole cowboy like me knows Ms. Billie does a dad-gummed good job as a speaker and presenter for ALL sorts of groups. She lives near Houston, and she doesn't mind gettin' on an airplane to come speak to your group.
